The 2009 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest takes place on the Fourth of July in Coney Island.
Takeru “Tsunami” Kobayashi will take on Joey “Jaws” Chestnut (among others) at the 2009 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest.

Last year’s hot dog eating contest was the first time officials used a ten-minute time limit. It was also the first time the even had a tie since 1980, as Chestnut and Kobayashi were all knotted up for first after eating 59 dogs in regulation. In overtime, “Jaws” was the first to finish five, winning the event.
Chestnut also won in 2007 but before then, Kobayashi had won six in a row from 2001 through 2006. Winners take home $10,000 in prize money, while second place gets $5,000 and third receives $2,500. 2007 was the first time cash prizes were awarded to the winners, as a total of $20,650 was awarded that year.
The 2009 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest is next Saturday, July 4 in Coney Island, New York.
